RE: Request for Updated Special Use Permit requesting an increase in allowable students at a boarding school.

Yeshiva Pardes Yosef operates as a secondary boarding school for children ages thirteen to sixteen. The school provides
onsite dormitory facilities for students and is currently allowed a student population of 180 students under conditions of a
Special Use Permit granted to the Aronson Family Charitable Foundation in December of 2000.
Under its current operations,the facility provides classrooms, administrative offices, dormitories and living quarters for
students and staff,dining facilities, indoor physical educational facilities, library, social/cultural/recreation/religious centers,
physical plant maintenance and operational facilities, infirmary and miscellaneous support facilities for student and staff.
Yeshiva Pardes Yosef needs greater flexibility to board its students, staff,and family members and wishes to update their
special use permit to conditionally approve an increased allowable dormitory occupancy of 250 total dormitory occupants
divided over three floors (an increase of 70 occupants over the record Special Use Permit).
Specifically, it wishes to maximize the single room occupancies to a total of(up to)five or six students per room depending
on the rooms gross floor area. This will allow them to board students in varying numbers depending on the unique
requirements of a specific school term.
The increased occupancy request will not affect the building footprint, building height, building site, or have an impact on
the surrounding neighborhood in any way. The existing facilities will need no alterations to achieve the added capacity
requested. The existing building will meet currently required occupancy and egress codes with the increased occupancy
and this will be reviewed by the Building Department if the Special Use Permit update is allowed. Staff levels at the facility
will remain under 30 as approved by the record Special Use Permit.
There are currently 53 parking spaces available for the facility. One (1) parking space for every five(5)students greater
than 16 years of age and one(1) parking space for every 2 employees is required. A maximum 30 staff will require fifteen
(15) spaces,with the remaining thirty-eight(38)available for students greater than sixteen years of age. The school
currently operates with a staff of 10 to 15 and does not typically have students older than sixteen. As such,the existing
parking is adequate for the requested increase.
