Comments Good afternoon- I am writing regarding multiple concerns with
the proposed Workforce Housing project on Excelsior Avenue.
The board has stated a traffic survey was commissioned and
the results saw no issue with the new housing and proposed
YMCA center. I have lived in the apartments and our new home
now for only two years and during the winter the streets are
nearly impassable. I am speaking of the public streets; not what
Burns or Witt are responsible for. Excelsior Avenue and Or-
mandy are narrow/one lane streets during the non-winter
months and during winter months people are backed up due to
Excelsior being reduced to what amounts to less then one lane.
At the last workshop it was brought up to remove the median
green areas. I don't see this as a realistic solution to the prob-
lem, and also see it as an admission that there is an issue in
general that was not properly vetted. The public sidewalks were
also not attended to for most of the winter months leading to
another safety concern which would only be exacerbated with
the increased population of this project.
I also am not understanding the overall placement of this
project. The new Promenade project on the other side of the
city was placed in direct vicinity of another public housing
project as well as lower rent apartments. It is located on what
was already a street capable of the increased traffic; not a
closed loop roadway such as Excelsior Ave. There are also no
hotels in direct vicinity to the Promenade project, as the Resi-
dence Inn will be located adjacent to the workforce housing.
There is also no higher end housing in the direct area of the
Promenade.
Finally I saw this article regarding the Broad Street Commons
workforce housing in Glens Falls. This complex is also not lo-
cated near higher end housing and is located on a major thor-
oughfare in the city.
