Comments Dear Committee Members
The proposed building for 269 Broadway creates many issues
relating to public health and safety:
1. The traffic pattern on Broadway in front of the proposed
building is already horrendous and will only be worsened
(needs a careful traffic survey when school is in session)
2. There are a multitude of trucks that use that street and many
park or double park to make deliveries (needs a careful assess-
ment of truck traffic and deliveries). All deliveries to 269 Broad-
way will be made from the Broadway side of the building.
3. A new traffic study is required that accommodates the in-
creased number of vehicles that this building will generate (ap-
proximately 300- 400).
4. The off-loading and pick-up of students for the high school
already creates a traffic obstruction and hazard to the students.
This occurs during the day and some evenings (needs a study
of the student impact on traffic patterns).
5. The placement of a 6 story commercial/retail building within
several feet of a school is problematic. Schools today are usu-
ally isolated for the health and safety of students. This may be
the only occurrence of such a building being placed immedi-
ately adjacent to a school in upstate New York. This situation
should be carefully reviewed by the state.
6. The granting of an easement by the school to allow this
building to be built closer than would otherwise be permitted
seems most unusual and not in the best interest of students.
These are some of the issues that need to be carefully evalu-
ated prior to granting approval for this building.
