HomeMy WebLinkAbout20210577 Sgori Area Variance Public Comment July 23, 2021 TO: Members of the Zoning Board of Appeal RE: The requested area variances for 331 Caroline St. (Segori project) From: Claire Schmidt I have lived at 27 Schuyler Dr. for 31 years. It is my home and sanctuary in this crazy world. My house is on the same lot size as 331 Caroline. With the variances given to 331 Caroline in 2013, that lot became built out to what I believe is its maximum capacity. It is one of the smaller lots in the neighborhood and is also on a corner lot. There is not much space between the edge of my lot and their house. This proposed second story will be fairly close to and loom over my home. As well you know there have been numerous renovations done to homes on Schuyler Dr. over my 31 years there. All of the renovations have been appropriate to the lot sizes, tasteful and thoughtfully done. It has been a wonderful neighborhood to live in. When I looked at the architectural renderings for the renovation at 331 Caroline St, I realized that upon completion my home was going to be literally overshadowed by the enormity of this house next to me. The proposed renovation at 331 Caroline St takes an already small, overbuilt corner lot and goes completely over the top in size and scope. This house will dwarf my home in a permanent way, blocking the sunlight from the south, which I highly value. It is well known that the lack of sunlight, especially in the winter months, can trigger sadness, depression, and mental health issues. Also, the proposed renovation’s rear windows facing my property look down over my house and yard and are an uncomfortable invasion of my privacy. I am distraught to say the least with this proposed project and its impact on my home. This renovation at 331 Caroline St is too much for the small corner lot and I believe will set a bad precedent and overwhelm the other houses around it. Please reject the numerous variances requested by my neighbors.
