The Design Review Commissian will evaluate whether the proposed action {construction, alteration or
demolition) is compatible wiCh existing structures and surrounding properties using the following c�-iteria:
• Height— consistent with histaric form and context of site and s�urrounding properties
• Scale — relationship of structure and its architectural elernents to human size, form, perc�ption
• Prdpartian — relationship among build�ng elements including frcant fa�ade, windows, and doors
• Rhythm — patter-n resuiting�rom repeating builcling elements such as doorlwindow openings, columns,
arches, and other-fa�ade elements
• �Frectional Expression — compa�ibility with horizontal &vertical expr-ession oi su�roundin� structures
• Massing & Open 5paee — relatianship of str��cture ta open space between it and adjoining buildings
+ Setback— cornpatibiliry with surrounding structures
• Compatibility of the fallowing with surrounding structures/properties:
- Ma�or building elements (storefronts, doors, windaws, roofl
- Building materials
- Calor — (in non-residential zoning districts only)
5. DEc�s�otvs: The Design Review Commission may approve, apprQve with conditiQns, or disapprove an
application. The DRC may impose apprapriate canditions ant! safeguards in connection with its approval
including nature/quality af materials, manner of construction, a�td design. An applicant may appeal a denied
�RC application on the grounds ofi hardship.
Application approvals shall ex�ire within �8 months of tlle filins� clake unless the project has sufficiently
commenced (i,e, tauilding/demolitian permits obtained and canstructia�lalteration begun). Applicants may
request up to 2 extensions if cequested befare expiration date of prior approval.
