G'r/ 474 Broadway PRESERVATION Saratoga Springs,NY 12866 7 RE: 382 Broadway—Signage and Exterior Modifications Dear Tamie: Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation reviewed the application for the exterior to install a sign and change paint colors at 382 Broadway. The Rockwell Putnam Building was built circa 1850 with later exterior changes made circa 1890s,including the three-story oriel bay.The building was badly damaged by fire in 1902 at which time the fourth floor was altered. It is a contributing building to the Broadway Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Board of Directors Adam N.Favro The proposed work includes a new sign and exterior facade color changes. While the President Foundation rarely comments on signs,it has significant concerns about the increased use of signs with halo lit letters. The Foundation does not find them to being keeping with the historic James Gold character of the BroadwayHistoric District. Vice President Linda Harvey The Foundation also rarely comments on paint colors as they are reversible. However,the Secretary exterior paint colors that were painted without approval by the Design Review Commission are Dmitriy Yermolayev not in keeping with the architectural style of the building. The Foundation shared its concerns Treasurer about the use of the proposed colors with the applicant's representative,Ryan Berry,in 2019. James Kettlewen The use of"Real Red"is not appropriate for the historic cast iron column. The proposed"Iron emeritus Ore"color is appropriate for the cast iron column,but it is not appropriate for the façade.
