RE: 382 Broadway—Signage and Exterior Modifications
Dear Tamie:
Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation reviewed the application for the exterior to install a
sign and change paint colors at 382 Broadway.
The Rockwell Putnam Building was built circa 1850 with later exterior changes made circa
1890s,including the three-story oriel bay.The building was badly damaged by fire in 1902 at
which time the fourth floor was altered. It is a contributing building to the Broadway Historic
District listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Board of Directors
Adam N.Favro The proposed work includes a new sign and exterior facade color changes. While the
President Foundation rarely comments on signs,it has significant concerns about the increased use of
signs with halo lit letters. The Foundation does not find them to being keeping with the historic
James Gold character of the BroadwayHistoric District.
Vice President
Linda Harvey The Foundation also rarely comments on paint colors as they are reversible. However, the
Secretary exterior paint colors that were painted without approval by the Design Review Commission are
Dmitriy Yermolayev not in keeping with the architectural style of the building. The Foundation shared its concerns
Treasurer about the use of the proposed colors with the applicant's representative,Ryan Berry,in 2019.
Jaime Butler Theapplication should be reviewed in conformance of the Historic Review Ordinance:
