(Note: this does not include the required sizing criteria - RIRv, W0v Cpv, Op and Of)Therefore, the design engineer can always propose an alternative design provided they include a demonstration of equivalence in the SWPPP. For your choker course thickness scenario, you can research other states standards (see New Jersey and Minnesota) and use their design criteria as an acceptable alternative. Let me know if this answers your question. Per our experience with installation of porous pavement the choker course helps provide a better paving surface by chinking in the top layer of reservoir stone. It's our understanding that the thickness of the choker course does not provide any stormwater quality benefits. We have had success on numerous projects placing only an r of choker course, which follows other states (Minnesota) and agencies (FHWA) recommendations for a porous pavement section. We have actually seen issues with the choker course pushing/rutting during installation with a thicker course. In meeting the NYSDEC stormwater requirement is using a 1" thick choker course in the porous pavement section an acceptable alternative to the 4-8" depth stated in the NYSDEC Manual? Thanks.
