Amanda,
I was hoping to layout the options to the DRC. Are you saying that I need to propose one
option without alternatives?
Here's what I see for now, in order of my preference:
Option #1 - original proposed 54" inch decorative fence
- I've toured the historic neighborhood and there are several front yard fences, not only on
corner properties, many of which are higher than 48". Furthermore, there are several front
yard fences in my immediate proximity so I don't think ours would change the look and
character of the neighborhood. Also, our house is set back more than most and lends itself to
a front fence.
Option #2 - plain 48" metal fence
- This is not our preference but better than status quo.
Option #3 - keep the existing 6'wooden fence
- I do not believe this requires DRC approval because it will be set back far enough but is our
least preferable option. I would be surprised if the DRC would prefer a 6' wooden fence over
a metal fence that creates more openness.
Should I submit a formal addendum to our application for you to circulate to the DRC?
I'm happy to discuss over the phone if that's easier.

I still have not heard back from Pat Cogan but have confirmed that there is a metal fence opi
48", which is the minimum height to meet pool code. It is a plain fence with no decorative
features but perhaps the DRC is more concerned about the height than the look of the fencE
Personally, I think adding another 6 inches to gain the decorative features is worth it but I'll
to the DRC.
Can you please confirm that I am scheduled for the May 19th meeting? I did not see our
application listed and wasn't sure what steps I need to take to make sure we have a chance t
present.

It is a set distance per Zoning District measured from the front property line. You woul
need a survey to confirm location of the property lines.

Anything within the front yard setback that is over 3'in height is under DRC purview. T
property is in the UR-3 zoning district,where the front yard setback is 10'.

Pat,
I just presented a proposal to the DRC for a front yard fence and was advised to
meet with you to review the specifications as they pertain to pool code. I'd like
to schedule a meeting with you before the next DRC meeting in two weeks to
review the proposed specifications. Attached is our application for your review.
It is my understanding from our fencing contractor, Bill Pogonowski from Adk
Fence, that our fence needs to be 54" to meet pool code, due to the distance
between rails. The DRC would like the fence to be as low as possible to meet
pool code and would like confirmation from you as to what will be required.
I have copied Amanda Tucker from the Planning Department so that she is in
the loop, as well as Bill Pogonowski,with the hopes that he can participate in the
meeting to answer any specific questions.
