I am the owner of the property at 134 Nelson Avenue which abuts their lot. This house has been in my family since my parents purchased it in1942, and we have seen considerable erosions to the residential character of the neighborhood. I do not underestand the assumptions which constitute the basis for the application. First, several neighbors abut the property who are not commercial in nature. ( They claim " all surrounding properties do not adhere to this regulation" ). Secondly, a cottage behind our property would certainly be visible, particularly if it is two stories tall. Even a one story tall building would be visible and would contribute to the increased density of the neighborhood. Nor do I understand why the applicants cannot add on to the back of the current house, which would seem to provide a more secure environment for an elderly woman than a free standing independent structure. While I recognize the hardship created by these personal circumstances, I wonder if they were of the type of "unnecessary hardship " contemplated by the code. In short, it seems like a temporary opportunity to facilitate a long term use as a rental which is not contemplated by the code. And furthermore, it is based on an unfortunate circumstance shared by so many of us that would create a zoning precedent that the city might not want to encourage or endorse. I am therefore opposed to the current application. Thank you so much for your consideration. Ruth Edelson 134 Nelson Ave. https://m.saratoga-springs.org/h/printmessage?id=56982&tz=America/New York 1/1
