Matthew ' eitch
President
The Craftsman style house, built c. 1923, is a contributing building to the East Side
James Gold Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This property displays
Vice President & Secretary the characteristics of the Craftsman architectural style including a low-pitched gabled
Adam N. Fa'rro roof, unenclosed cave overhangs, exposed roof rafters, tapered square stone columns,
Treasurer full-width front porch, and wood shingle wall cladding. This house was built in 1914 by
Caroline Cardone Robert Clark, Vice President of Clark Textiles, a year after his brother, Alfred Clark,
Brennan Drake Treasurer of Clark Textiles, built his house at 29 Fifth Avenue.

Samantha Kercull A 1978 photograph shows that the house previously had a slate roof (see enclosed),
Douglas Kerr Unfortunately, the photograph is black and white and does not provide documentation of
Richard Kingthe color of the slate roof. Due to the similar age and architectural style of 29 Fifth
Michelle elle Pa q uett -Reuel
Cindy Spence Avenue as well as the family connection, most likely the color of the slate of 172 Circular
Dmitriy Yerrolayev Street was similar.
James Kettlewell. The Foundation enthusiastically supports the owner's effort to remove the existing
emeritus asphalt shingle roof and restore the slate roof as proposed.
The Foundation appreciates not only the significant investment that the owner is making
Executth Director to restore the slate roof, but. also to repair and maintain the front porch in-kind.
