Dear Design Review Commission,
The city soon will have modern buildings that will be more
prevalent and overpowering than the historic buildings. The city
itself will look like an attractive and lively modern city with some
historic architecture - not a charming Victorian city with historical
architectural gems with modern buildings that complement the
existing buildings. People live and visit Saratoga Springs because of
its charm.

I believe that when people visit a place like Cape May, NJ; the
reason is because they want to experience that quaint Victorian
village by the sea. Travel to Maine usually involves a desire to see
Fishing village structures and clapboard housing as Ogunquit has
managed to preserve ( even with new construction; which is still
discernible from the historic buildings). And if I ever go to Santa Fe,
it will be with the expectation of experiencing Pueblo-Spanish or
Spanish-Indian style architecture. Guests we have invited to
Saratoga Springs express enthusiasm to see what they envision as a
unique, lively Victorian city rich in history, the arts and of course,
horses. They are so often taken aback and surprised at the
squared, modern architecture that is prominent along Broadway and
surrounding streets.
Countless new homes have been built in and around Saratoga since
then, with many utilizing modern designs that blend beautifully with
the historic Victorian look of Saratoga.- why has it not happened
with the more visible and city-defining commercial buildings? I
believe that the new building is not in-keeping with our historic
downtown and we feel strongly that the height, scale and mass (and
the sharply contrasting light beams) are inappropriate.
