Ms. Tucker:
I am writing to the ZBA in opposition to the demolition of 65 and 69 Phila
Street. The two historic homes are not yet past rehabilitation and
conservation - and the current owners should NOT be rewarded for allowing two
important parts of Saratoga ' s architectural history to decline by allowing
their demolition and sale of the lots which would remain.
The city should have some form of conservatorship which allows such woefully
ignored historical homes to be preserved, as the irreplaceable detailing and
craft which created them - and the past they represent - are a large part of
what continues to draw people to Saratoga, both as visitors and as permanent
residents and/or business owners!
Attached are renderings of each home as they would appear conserved. No
additions or fancy details are added - just the existing architectural work
shown restored, and the bricl< on 69 Phila shown in its unpainted state. The
original curved porch was stored inside 65 Phila and is shown reattached and
restored.
I hope the Board will receive copies of the renderings to see what could be -
and what we will be losing if the delinquent current owners are allowed to
destroy an important original part of a local neighborhood - and of
Saratoga ' s heyday history. Please do not allow that destruction to happen!
Sincerely,
C.A.M. Cameron
