Dear Katie—it came to our attention last night at the Zoning board meeting during the review of a variance
request for"SIGNAGE" at 204 South Broadway,Well Now, urgent care center that Well Now INTENDS TO USE
KEARNEY LANE FOR GENERAL ACCESS to its facility.
Where is the variance request for access from Kearney Lane? As immediate neighbors on a residential street
we have not been properly notified of this request. The commercial properties that back Kearney Lane on
South Broadway have NOT HAD ACCESS from the lane for at least 30 years. Any access now should require a
variance. The last attempt at access was in 1993 which was shut down.
As neighbors we noticed the fence removed however, we understood it was to allow a crane to come in work
on the building project not for general access upon completion.
My house backs Kearney Lane. If I were to remove my fence and create a driveway, I would need a variance
from the city to do so. I expect the other side of the lane to be subject to the same. The fact that this access
has been completely overlooked by the city is out rightly deceptive and offensive—suggesting signage is the
only change in variance needed.
Additionally, the concept of Kearney Lane being a thoroughfare is also a safety concern as noted by the
numerous incidents that have occurred there. Check the data with Public Safety.
This is a non-starter and going to be problematic. I want to see the variance request.
