Re:The Well Now sign variance: My wife and I own and occupy 11 Whitney Place which backs onto Kearney Lane from the east. The Well Now property backs onto Kearney Lane from the West which means that we are directly behind the subject property. The former occupant of the property,Boston Markets, was not a good neighbor as can be witnessed from slide 16 of the Well Now sign application. There the deteriorated fence and uncut shrubbery adjacent to Kearney Lane illustrate this point. In addition,Boston Markets,in violation of a condition granted at the time the building was erected, received the delivery of supplies off of Kearney Alley. Well Now starts out its presence on the site by requesting a variance to erect a sign on the building in a location on the south side of the building which had no prior signage. The signage will not be useful to persons traveling on Kearney Lane since it is a one way street meaning that drivers would not see the sign which would be behind them. The sign would be visible from the back yard of my property and from that of 9 Whitney Place as well. For these reasons we request that the portion of the application regarding signage on the south side of the building be held in abeyance for a period of 9 months from the date of occupancy at which time the application would be revisited by the Board if requested to do so by the applicant.
