Tonya,
The link has the photos and a video.
The slate roof is definitely beyond repair. For reference we just gone done rehabbing an entire slate roof for
.Sharon.A month worth of work. So obviously we are willing to do that work and she is willing to pay for it. Day
1 we were working out of a lift to start patching up the roof and it was immediately apparent this roof was
beyond repair. The slate are soft. Not all slate are created equal. Pennsylvania slate tends to be softer. These
have allowed water in between which freeze thaw and cause the slate to fracture. These slate you could easily
put a flat bar right through them. 75%of the slate need replacing, that's not to say how many this will damage
surrounding.
I have been a general contractor since 2009. We have specialized in roofing this entire time as well. I do roofing
training sessions for JLC Live (journal of light construction) also. We have done copper and slate work in
Saratoga Springs my entire career.

Hi Jen—
To answer DRC questions about what other feasible options we have explor
• We have attempted to save the existing slate but it is proving difficult with much breakage¬ much
salvage. The pieces have deteriorated and are very thin. Much of the slate is deteriorating and, as may
be seen in the video, they are susceptible to "punch thru" and not "splitting/breaking" as would be
typical. The slate is also delaminating. The contractor is also concerned about repairing/replacing due
to the thickness differences between the old pieces and the new.
• A full new slate roof is not financially feasible.
• The Owner would prefer the installation of architectural shingles as a replacement for financial reasons.
However, from a design perspective, we thought that the synthetic slate would be a better aesthetic
option.
Thank you for your time.
