RE: 107 Union Avenue—Roof Replacement
Board of Directors Dear Tarnie:
Adam N.Farm
President The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation has reviewed the application for a roof
James Gold replacement at 107 Union Avenue. This circa 1884 Queen Anne designed by Samuel
Vice President Gifford Slocum is a contributing building to the Historic District listed on the National
Register of Historic Places.
Linda Harvey-Opiteck
Secretary
Based on Sanborn Map information, this house historically was clad with wood shingles,
Dmitriy Yermolaycv not slate. Please see attached. Therefore, the Foundation recommends that the existing
r'reasurcr conical roofs that are wood shingle remain wood shingle and that the main roof be
Jaime Butler-Binlcy replaced with asphalt composition shingles that do not imitate the appearance of slate.
Caroline Cardone While the porch roof is currently asphalt composition shingle, the Foundation encourages
Giovanna D'Orazio
Steven Dodds the owner to replace that roof with wood shingle to be in-keeping with its historic
Brennan Drake appearance and the conical roofs.
Sandra Fox
John Haller
Liz Israel The Foundation thanks the owners for making the investment to this historic structure.
Samantha Kercull
