RE: 21 Park Place—Property Sub-Division
•
Dear Mark,
t;
The Saratoga Spring Preservation Foundation has reviewed the materials submitted for a
Design Review Commission advisory opinion on the proposed subdivision of the lot at
21 Park Place.
Board of Directors The residence at 106 Regent Street is one of the few remaining examples of the Gothic
Revival style in Saratoga Springs. It is believed to have been built prior to 1856.The
Adam N.Favro 1856 Bevan Map is the first to show the building which has always been set back on a
President
large corner lot with a grove of trees.
James Gold
Vice President As previously stated in 2014,the property is immediately adjacent to the Canfield
Linda Harvey-opitcek Casino-Congress Park-Circular Street Historic District listed on the National Register of
Secretary Historic Places. In 1987 a Certified Local Government grant underwrote a survey of the
Dmitriy Ycnnolnyev White Street/Regent Street area and determined that 106 Regent Street was eligible for
Irreasurer listing on the National Register of Historic Places. It was recommended that it be added
as a contributing building to the Canfield Casino-Congress Park-Circular Street Historic
Matthew witch
Past PresidentDistrict.Unfortunately,none ofproperties
the identified in the survey were added to the
National Register of Historic Places or to the Local Historic District.

Giovanna D'Oraio As stated in our letter dated June 2,2020, the Foundation could not at that time support
Steven Dodds the property subdivision. Since that time the owner has agreed as part of the condition to
Brennan Drake the property that anynew construction will be subject to Architectural Review
Sandra Fox
John Hauer by the Design Review Commission. With that condition, the Foundation no longer
Liz Israel objects to the subdivision since Architectural Review by the Design Review Commission
SDouglas err will address the concerns the Foundation had about the orientation, mass, scale, height,
Douglas Kerr
Richard King fenestration, design, and materials of the building. The Foundation continues to remain
Stephen Kyne concerned about the placement of the curb-cut and driveway. However, it is hopeful that
William McCarthy
Dorothy Rogers-Bullis this can be addressed through Architectural Review by the Design Review Commission.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration of our comments.
